16 trainees begin career path at VAHLE

Achim Dries (left), Managing Director of Paul Vahle GmbH & Co. KG, welcomes the new trainees

At the start of the new training year, Paul Vahle GmbH & Co. KG welcomed 16 new apprentices today. Two prospective electronics technicians for devices and systems, one IT specialist, two warehouse specialists, three production mechanics, five industrial clerks, one industrial mechanic and two technical product designers are starting their careers at the Kamen-based industrial company.

Kamen, August 1, 2019 - The hidden champion in the field of power and data transmission scores with young people in particular with the quality of the apprenticeship, challenging activities and good framework conditions such as payment according to the IG Metall collective wage agreement and a 35-hour week. The fact that VAHLE takes a lot of time for the career starters is shown, among other things, by the welcome days at the beginning of the apprenticeship and a teambuilding event at the end of August.

"We are pleased to once again accompany so many young people as they take the first steps on their career path," says Achim Dries, Managing Director at Paul Vahle GmbH & Co. KG. Time and again, the influx of applications exceeds the training capacities of the Kamen-based company. In order to enable as many as possible to start their careers, VAHLE is now training more than it needs for the first time. "Those who do their apprenticeship with us have excellent prospects. We lay the foundation for a successful career here," says Dries.

Kamen-based hidden champion has been training business people for 50 years

VAHLE trains in seven professions: Electronics Technician for Devices and Systems, IT Specialist, Warehouse Logistics Specialist or Warehouse Specialist, Production Mechanic, Industrial Clerk, Industrial Mechanic and Product Designer. In more than 50 years, the hidden champion has already paved more than 500 career paths. Commercial training is jubilant this year: the first prospective commercial trainees were recruited in 1969. Industrial apprenticeships started back in the early 1960s.

Modern training center offers room to try out and learn

Practical training generally takes place in Kamen. Theoretical knowledge is acquired by the apprentices in the vocational colleges in Hamm, Unna and Witten, depending on their specialization. They can apply their knowledge directly at the training center, which was modernized and enlarged at headquarters in 2018. Apprentices in industrial trades work there together on various products as part of the factory lessons. In this way, VAHLE promotes their understanding of the work processes involved in manufacturing. "The apprentices of today are the skilled workers of tomorrow. As a training company, we offer them an infrastructure that promotes their individual skills," says Dries.

In order to prepare the career starters well for their future jobs, VAHLE gives them responsibility early on. They have the opportunity to implement their own projects, for example films as part of the "Heroes in Training" competition of the Unna District Economic Development Corporation. The trainees like the future industrial clerk Jennifer Hufer appreciate this. Hufer also emphasizes the good framework conditions that VAHLE offers them: "Few of my classmates at the vocational college have a 35-week schedule like me." In addition to payment according to the IG Metall collective wage agreement, the trainees receive additional benefits such as a trainee ticket for local public transport, if required.

Young people start out in seven different professions

For the 16 new apprentices, four welcome days are now on the program. On these they will get to know the company and receive their safety clothing. Another highlight in the coming weeks will be the teambuilding event with a canoe trip on the Ruhr on August 26.
