Container terminals around the world are transitioning from diesel-powered rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs) to electrically powered eRTG systems. Electrification significantly reduces fuel consumption, lowers emissions and improves operational efficiency within modern port infrastructure.
VAHLE’s eRTG system enables the reliable electrification of RTG cranes by supplying power through a conductor rail system while maintaining full crane mobility within the container yard.
The system uses an electrically controlled telescopic arm equipped with a current collector trolley that automatically connects the crane to the conductor rail infrastructure. This allows RTG cranes to seamlessly switch from diesel generator power to grid electricity during operation.
By combining robust electrification technology with automated connection systems, VAHLE supports ports worldwide in reducing operating costs and advancing sustainable terminal operations.
The VAHLE eRTG system enables automatic connection between the crane and the conductor rail power supply while the crane travels along container yard blocks.
