Functional Safety Control System for Automated Conveyors

Modern intralogistics and automotive production systems operate with increasing levels of automation and system complexity. Ensuring functional safety while maintaining production efficiency is essential for protecting personnel, safeguarding equipment and preventing unplanned downtime.

The VCS-SMG-SAFE and VCS-PCB-SAFE are TÜV-certified safety application control systems designed to integrate seamlessly with the VCSX multi-axis drive platform. These modules enable preconfigured, standards-compliant safety functionality for electric monorail systems (EMS), pallet conveyors and skillet lines.

Preconfigured Functional Safety Architecture

The safety modules are delivered with application-specific, fail-safe configurations. This reduces engineering effort and simplifies commissioning without requiring complex configurations within the programmable logic controller (PLC) system. 

Supported safety functions include:

  • Safely Limited Speed (SLS)
  • Safe Position (SPOS)
  • Encoder-based monitoring functions
  • Safe shutdown and controlled stop scenarios

 

The VCS-SMG-SAFE and VCS-PCB-SAFE support one HTL encoder interface and one SSI encoder interface for safety-relevant feedback signals.

All safety evaluations are performed in accordance with IEC 6150 and EN 61800.

  • Data transmission between stationary and mobile units via fail-safe SMGM slotted microwave guide

This flexibility allows system designers to select the appropriate safety topology based on plant architecture and communication requirements.

Simplified Integration & Serviceability

Individual safety parameters can be adapted on-site without complex PLC programming. Data exchange is limited to process and diagnostic data, minimizing integration complexity.

Additional features include:

  • Integrated memory card for simplified device replacement
  • Configuration via standardized function blocks
  • Coordinated architecture with VCSX drive control
