Dual study program in computer science

As a dual student in our IT team, you will learn how to design, implement and customize complex IT systems. You will be supported by friendly colleagues who you are always welcome to talk to. As an IT expert, you will be the first point of contact for all technical matters. This could be a crashed computer, the installation of new IT systems, the maintenance of devices or repairs of all kinds. You will also teach users how to use applications correctly in training courses and learn how to administer servers, networks and information security systems.

The nine-semester dual study program at VAHLE takes place in cooperation with Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts. It combines a high-quality computer science degree with training as an IT specialist for system integration, i.e. in-company training. As a dual student, you will not attend a vocational school, but will learn the theoretical content of the training and the course at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts. This gives you a double qualification right at the start of your career:

• IT specialist for system integration (IHK)
• Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Computer Science Dual

As planned, you will complete the apprenticeship in the sixth semester with the IHK examination and the course in the ninth semester with the B.Sc. degree.

The dual study program in computer science is optimally structured:

• A maximum of three days of theory at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts and at least two days of practical work at VAHLE per week
• First semester: basics of programming, algorithms, data structures, operating systems and computer architectures
• Advanced modules: Information security, IT management, mathematics for computer science and theoretical computer science
• From the third semester: specialization in software engineering, network engineering or digitization management. Network technology & system integration is a compulsory elective, as it covers the important areas of designing, monitoring and optimizing modern IT systems (IT landscape - architecture and structure of company-wide IT systems, monitoring & fault analysis - detecting and rectifying system errors, virtualization & cloud computing - setting up and managing cloud infrastructures & virtual networks)
• Practical phases in the fourth and seventh semesters to apply the knowledge directly in our real IT projects

The course is taught in German.
