VAHLE receives award for improvements in occupational safety
The Silver Safety Award of the BGHM 2025 goes to VAHLE for the Safety Cube. This centrally bundles all occupational safety information and is planned for every production hall in the future.
Yesterday, VAHLE received the Silver Safety Award of the Employer's Liability Insurance Association for Wood and Metal (BGHM) 2025. The prize was awarded for the newly developed "Safety-Cube VAHLE" safety concept, which brings together all occupational safety and health information at a central point in the production halls. The system will be introduced throughout the entire company in future.
"With the Safety Cube, we are creating a central point of contact for all topics relating to occupational health and safety. This will improve clarity and make it easier for our employees to access important safety information," explains Marc Rubeau, Team Leader Health and Safety at VAHLE.
The development of the Safety Cube took around a year. After extensive testing in various departments, the prototype was officially put into operation in March 2025. The final cube is currently being used in production, particularly in the machining area. The long-term plan is to equip every production hall with at least one Safety Cube.
The Safety Cube bundles all important safety information in one central location. This includes fire safety information, first aid material including an AED - an automated external defibrillator that can save lives in the event of cardiac arrest - as well as ARGUS posters with occupational safety information, the latest safety news and digital checkpoints with access to operating instructions, risk assessments and hazardous substance directories.
During the test phase, the Cube was continuously developed together with team leaders and employees. For example, the size was adjusted and the Cube was given a rotatable structure that enables flexible use during training and instruction. The integrated monitor is height-adjustable and therefore ergonomically adaptable. Power is supplied via a slip ring on the VAHLE conductor rail so that the Cube is reliably supplied with power in any position.
"The project impressively demonstrates how interdisciplinary collaboration can drive innovation in occupational safety. Specialist departments from production, equipment construction, logistics, marketing and our Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) team worked together to implement the Cube," says Marc Rubeau.
The Silver Safety Award was presented yesterday at the VAHLE plant. Every year, the BGHM selects the three best projects from all the award winners for the Golden Safety Award, which is presented directly in Mainz. "We hope that our Safety Cube will also be one of the award-winning projects here," says Rubeau.
